OPHTEL stands for professional research and evaluation of information and communication technology in eye care. The first OPHTEL project was established in 1996 and was funded by the European Union within the Telematics Projects with approx. 2.55 M ECU (Euro). The goals of OPHTEL2012 are the evaluation of software applications in the area of local electronic medical record systems (EMR) as well as web based registries and outcome software for eye care professionals. The use of open standards and connectivity components are a main topic of the project (more: OPHTEL2012 General Objectives).
